A €13 billion worth of investment has been made by Google to bolster its digital relationship with Finland. The ultimate purpose of the investment is to create much-needed job opportunities and financially assist Finland-based environmental projects.
Finland has been serving as a crucial data center for Google for the past 15 years. This investment is going to help Google cater to the increasing demand for some of its main services like Maps, Gemini, and Search.
At present, the Hamina data center serves as the bread and butter for multiple professionals like computer technicians, mechanical engineers, and security staff.
This latest investment is going to add positively to Finland’s economy. In the next 2 years, as many as 37,000 job opportunities will be created across the country.
€31 million is also being invested across the local communities of Muhos, Hamina, Vaala, and Kajaani to facilitate economic and educational development.
Apart from all this, Google is also aiming to promote clean energy and is planning to sign a 22-year agreement in that direction. This project is going to be extra beneficial for the extremely cold and windless climatic conditions.
Overall, Google wishes to add significantly to the local environment. That’s why it is funding heavily to replenish wetlands and forests, while developing public saunas, recreational trails and community fishing piers to foster a feeling of community and belonging.
